Aimee Joseph leads women through 40 days of devotions from Colossians

Anchoring Our Hope in Christ Brings Us the Security We Desperately Seek

We live in a world filled with anxiety, turmoil, and constant change. We may be tempted to think that feelings of instability and insecurity are mostly modern problems, but they have plagued the human heart from the beginning. They were challenges of the church in Colossae.

Through You Are Secure: Devotions for When Life Is Uncertain (New Growth Press/September 16, 2024), an eight-week devotional centered on the book of Colossians, Aimee Joseph helps us see that it is our union with Christ that fills our hearts with peace. Amidst a largely insecure world, our security is anchored into the unchanging person of Jesus.

“Our sense of security is only as stable as the object of our hope. If we find security in our finances, we will ride the roller coaster of Wall Street. If we find confidence and identity in our marriage, our joy and peace will fluctuate with every fight or moment of miscommunication. If we draw our security from a political party, we will be elated when that party is in power and devastated with every election loss. We very quickly find that peace is elusive when it’s attached to anything that is constantly changing. But anchoring our hope in Christ brings us the security we so desperately need.” Joseph writes.

Paul wrote his letter to address the specific ways that the Colossians’ stability was being jeopardized by clever lies and the infiltration of false beliefs. He prayed and longed for them to hold firm to the hope of the gospel as he reminded them that they had all they needed in Jesus.

“We are experiencing unprecedented levels of anxiety and fear as we live in an age marked by humanism and syncretism. However, we find an unlikely ally in the church at Colossae,” Joseph explains. “Even though it was written two thousand years ago, Paul’s power-packed epistle has so much to say to believers in our present age. The same truths that provided them security and stability apply to us today. Christ is at the center of all things and in him, all things hold together (Colossians 1:17).”

Each of the forty days in You Are Secure follows an easy-to-follow format of a Scripture reading, devotional reflection, and simple application questions and is suitable for individuals or small groups. The devotions are relatable for busy women of all ages and stages, making this book perfect for gift-giving as well. Women will grow in Christ-confidence and learn to turn to Jesus for daily help with fears, insecurities, and change.

This beautifully designed devotional is the second in the Gospel Truth for Women series, helping women to identify their struggles, go to Scripture to meet God, then share those truths with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. The first in the series is You Are Welcomed by Trish Donohue, and there are future titles planned for release in 2025 and beyond by a variety of authors.
