Centinela State Prison recently hosted X-Fest on Facility A, a faith-based event featuring skateboards, vehicles, bicycles, and music.
The event promoted faith, prayer and a chance for incarcerated individuals to participate in an event resembling their communities.
More than 70 participants volunteered their time, including Dennis Martinez, a pastor from New Vision Church in San Diego.
Incarcerated individuals were able to enjoy entertainment and activities such as skateboarding, concerts, low-rider vehicles, motorcycles, and BMX bicycle showcases.
Hundreds of incarcerated individuals and staff gathered around for the event.
Also enjoying and participating in the event was acting Warden Fidencio Guzman.
“I am honored our institution could participate in an event like this one. For a moment in time, the incarcerated population had the opportunity to be a part of an event that reminds them of their community,” Guzman said.
Centinela State Prison is committed to “normalization,” bringing the prison experience closer to life outside its walls. Normalization is one of the foundational pillars of the California Model.
